How do I play Word Matrix?

The goal is simple but deeply engaging: find groups of 4 words that share a logical link and clear the board. At the top of your screen, the system displays the target categories you need to uncover — such as capital cities, animals, or terms related to time. Select 4 cards that you believe belong together. If your association is correct, those cards clear from the matrix grid, and their corresponding target category header vanishes from the top of the board!


Stuck on a tricky connection? Use the Shuffle button to scramble the grid and unlock fresh visual patterns. If you need a cognitive boost, activate a Hint to reveal a hidden link and keep your puzzle momentum going.


The game scales linearly with your focus: Easy mode starts with 4 groups (16 cards), Medium expands to 6 groups (24 cards), Hard tests you with 8 groups (32 cards), and the unlockable Pro mode features a massive mental challenge of 10 groups (40 cards) simultaneously.

How are high scores and mistakes calculated?

Every level tracks your visual and linguistic efficiency. Your score updates instantly based on your choices:

  • Correct Connection: Earn +5 points for every valid group of four.
  • Incorrect Guess: Lose points based on missed words (-3, -2, or -1).
  • Using a Hint: Deducts points based on remaining slots (-4 down to -1).

The penalty depends entirely on how many correct words you selected. Making a guess with zero correct words costs more points than a guess with three correct words. Train your brain to analyze connections carefully to protect your high score!

How does Word Matrix stimulate the brain?

The game requires you to group 4 words that share a logical link (e.g., 4 European capitals, 4 terms related to astronomy, or 4 verbs of movement). Where is my game progress saved?

Your progress is completely secure from day one. By default, the game saves all session data, high scores, mistakes, and hints inside a local SQLite database on your device.

To prevent any data loss, Google Drive Cloud Sync is automatically enabled by default. The game seamlessly backs up your local database to your personal Google account.

You do not need to create an account. If you switch phones, your language milestones and vocabulary stats restore instantly.
